Emily's Milestones

Well ladies and gentlemen, not to brag, but I have reached a very important milestone this week... I finished Alma.. In Spanish.  Mmmmhmmm.. That's right.  That was a pretty big milestone.

Milestone numero 2,  I will be coming home a year from yesterday.  Wow!  That was a pretty freaky milestone!  I have yet to reach the milestone of changing areas.  The members here are starting to think that I will never leave.  But I love Martinez, despite the fact that I feel like I am living inside an urn and I am dinner for a variety of different blood sucking creatures here. The people here are just the best.  There is a family here that really always, always, always takes care of us.  La Familia Morales.  They are like my mission parents.  But la Hermana Rosie has taken upon herself the task of finding me a husband... hmm.. which is interesting.  But she is just wonderful and I know that I am going to be super sad to leave Martinez.

Milestone 3 Nuevo Presidente de la mision Mexico Xalapa.... :(  I am very very very sad.  President Lopez was seriously the best.  But he was released for personal reasons and to prepare him for a new calling in the Church. Everyone thinks that he was called as a member of the 70! Thats super cool and all... but I am still sad.  We now have a temporary president who will be here until July his name is Presidente Saucedo.   Me da miedo.(It scares me)  He and his wife are some serious planchadores (Google translate says this means Pressers) But we'll see how this goes.

Milestone 4.... this milestone is weird.  We had to cancel a baptism due to mother nature's monthly gift.  Pobre investigadora mia (My poor investigator). She was really upset.  And so were we but it is okay.  Next Sunday is the day for her and everything will be wonderful!!

Anyway the work keeps going on.  It is super hard to work in this sun but I believe that we will be just fine.  My dream one day is to go to Xalapa.  Where it rains, and people complain about being cold.  I have vowed to myself, I will never complain about the cold ever again.  My other dream is the go to Tezuitlan.  Yes.  It is beautiful.  Tengo un sueño que un dia voy a tener frió.  Pero, por ahora.  Tengo que sufrir... pero con longanimidad.  Estoy muy feliz!  Les amo mucho!  Sea feliz Sea Mormon!! (Translation from google translate: I have a dream that one day I will have cold. But for now. I have to suffer ... but with forbearance. I am very happy! I love them very much! Be happy Be Mormon!

Another week in the life of Hermana Chancla...Chanda...Chandere...Chandly...etc.

Me and my companion with our juice bags... weird.

Welp Family,

Just another week in the paradise I like to call Muertinez de la Torre.  Oh good heavens it is hot here.  Well, my missionary daughter was stolen from me and so now I've got my new companion. I am not training her but she has about 3 months in the mission.  She is super awesome, se llama Hermana Garcia. We get along really well! Monday night my Hermana Daza and I partied but we were sad because it was our last night together.  The next day we went to the bus station and dropped her off and I picked up my new companion. We were all excited and happy and we took a taxi back to our little house. We lugged her stuff up the stairs to find a note on the door that said, "your time here has ended, talk to my lawyer," and we couldn't go in the house!! We were locked out with all my stuff inside and with no where to go!! So we took all of her stuff to the house of the other hermanas and went to work while our wonderful zone leaders talked to the lawyer.  It was such a mess but long story short we were finally in our new house around 2:00 in the morning. What an adventure!  Turns out the ZLs had to break into our house through the window to get all of our stuff out! Agh! But this new house is super awesome. Hot water!! Yay!!! Also I am very content that their aren't millions of spiders!

Anyway, this week with my new companion was super great!  I loved it! Changes are all sorts of fun here.  We are working really well and having all sorts of fun preaching and teaching and stuff like that.  I really like my new zone, they are all super great.  And my investigators are progressing!  Woop!

I had a very odd experience this week... I tried praying in english, and I couldn't do it! That was an odd experience.  I can't do church things in English now!

Also, Mexican moment of the week:  I was talking to one of the other hermanas and she said that someone was a taco de ojo.... eye taco... like eye candy... wow..

Well there you go.  A typical week llena de aventura!! Les amo mucho! Hermana Chandler

Also another random fact,  in spanish smurfs are called pitufos.  and huey duey and luey (the ducklings) are hugo paco and luis

They stole my missionary daughter...

Agh!! Well this week was crazy business! The mission had changes and my comp and I were calm because we thought that obviously she wouldn't be transferred.. well psh.  President sure showed us! She is being transferred to Pápantla!  And I have to stay here in Martinez! It was such a sad surprise for all of us. I thought it was a joke but, no! I am so sad, Hermana Daza is wonderful and now we aren't going to be companions! I am bummed. I am going to be in Martinez for another 6 weeks!  Well, that happened and I am sad but oh well. Life moves on!  Martinez is lovely!

This week was interesting. We are trying to change houses and it has just been super crazy trying to figure everything out.  I can't do grown up things in English let alone Spanish! It has been an adventure trying to figure everything out!

I had a great moment!  I was eating my Nacho Libre corn and that was great. We were walking in the dark to our house and I was slightly scared until I realized that I could gouge someone's eye out with my Nacho Libre corn and I felt better.

The obra del señor es maravillosa!  I am super happy to be serving here.  I want you all to know that I love it here and I am super happy.  I hope that you are all doing well and that you are all very happy as well!  Be good!

One should not roam through garbage

Alrighty family.  Did you all feel the love from General Conference?  I sure did!  Agh!  The subject of this email is my absolute favorite quote now, it is super awesome.  And a good reminder for us... don't walk through garbage! But really, conference was lovely!  They had a little room for all the American missionaries so that we could watch it in English!   It was so so so so wonderful!! Yay! I got to enjoy conference with all the gringos.  I loved conference, it was seriously so awesome this time!

Anyway family, this week was good.  We went on divisions a lot this week. I went with another gringa and I went with our sister training leader.  It was so great!  I love doing exchanges!  But I swear, you would think we were 15 feet tall the way these people stare!   Two Americanas!! What are they doing here?? Yeah, we get that all the time.  But it was so fun to work with another missionary and we can share our crazy stories!

I have now had almost an entire change with my missionary daughter and we had a baptism this week! It was so great!  This girl is so awesome, we were seriously so excited.  Her name is Xotchil and she is 14 years old and her sister is a member. Now we are teaching the rest of their family.  I am so excited to work with them because they are wonderful.  I love it when I love the people I am teaching because if you don't love them, your work is kind of in vain. We are going to baptize this family, don't you worry!  Well that is basically it for this week! I love you all! Be good!

Bye!  Hermana Chandler

5 Months!

Everyone in the ward says that the guy on
the right and I look like we could be twins!

Pues familia,

This week was really good.  Missionary work is a crazy weird business, I have never had more disappointments in my life, but then again I have never had so many crazy awesome things happen.  I know that the lord looks out for his missionaries.  This week was pretty cool, everything was going great until we got the call... DUN DUN DUN!  We get to go to Xalapa!  Just for a day but I was super pumped, because we got to stay with my dear friend Hermana Finlinson from the MTC.  She is so awesome!  She is going to USU after her mission, so we are going to be roommates! I am so pumped! I love talking to my MTC pals because I realize that they too are having gringa-in-Mexico moments too.

I've decided that it is my dream to go to Xalapa.  It is the most American city I have been to in a very long time. THERE IS A WALMART!! It is civilization!

Well not much else happened this week.  But we are teaching and preaching and working as missionaries do.  I love you all!
